What are the responsibilities and job description for the Rescue Technician position at Safety Compliance Services?
Safety Compliance Services (SCS) is seeking a motivated and safety-driven Safety & Rescue Technician to support industrial and utility clients across the continental United States. This position provides on-site safety support, confined space standby rescue, fall protection rescue standby, and worksite safety oversight.
Technicians travel year-round to power plants, manufacturing facilities, construction sites, and infrastructure projects. If you take pride in professionalism, training, and readiness to respond when it matters most — this job is for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide confined space standby rescue support in accordance with OSHA and site-specific rescue plans
- Perform fall protection / fall arrest rescue standby and assist with rescue equipment setup
- Conduct jobsite hazard recognition and proactive safety interventions
- Assist with worksite safety oversight including:
- Pre-job planning / JHA review
- Toolbox talks
- Permit review (confined space permits, hot work permits, etc.)
- Inspect and maintain rescue and safety equipment (tripods, winches, ropes, gas monitors, AEDs, harnesses, etc.)
- Monitor atmospheric testing using 4-gas meters
- Maintain readiness to respond to emergencies and participate in rescue drills/training
- Complete daily documentation (logs, equipment check sheets, permits, incident documentation as needed)
- Represent SCS professionally with clients at all times
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to travel throughout the continental United States year-round
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Strong communication skills, reliability, and professional attitude
- Ability to work long hours, overtime, weekends, and nights depending on project needs
- Ability to wear required PPE including respirators/SCBA, harnesses, fall protection systems
- Must be physically able to perform job requirements (see Physical Demands section)
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required, But Highly Valued)
While training will be provided, candidates with prior certifications or field experience listed below will be prioritized due to the demanding nature of outage and rescue work:
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- CPR / First Aid / AED
- Confined Space Rescue training
- NFPA 1006 (or equivalent technical rescue certifications)
- Fall Protection Competent Person
- Tower Climber Rescue experience
- HAZWOPER (8/24/40)
- Scaffold Competent Person / Inspector
- Experience working in power generation, industrial maintenance, construction, or outage environments
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs (occasionally more with team lift)
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and work in confined spaces
- Ability to kneel, crawl, bend, stand for long periods
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions including heat, cold, rain, and snow
Work Environment
This position may involve:
- Power plant outages
- Industrial confined space entry environments
- Elevated work areas and fall hazard zones
- Noise, dust, heat/cold stress environments
