Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience with children and Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Development, Social Work (or related field) Degree preferred. Must not have any unresolved emotional issues regarding employee’s own past experience with abuse of any kind.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and work directly with children (ages 5-13) who have experienced domestic violence and assist in providing fun and engaging summer activities.
- In collaboration with the Lead Childcare Provider, create and participate in on-campus summer activities.
- Art projects
- Snacks
- Indoor and outdoor games
- Special Events - i.e., movie night, water play, cooking lesson
- In collaboration with the Shelter Program Manager and Lead Childcare Provider, coordinate and participate in summer field trips, including transportation options.
- Literacy – i.e., library summer reading program
- Physical Activity – i.e., swimming, walking trails
- Musical enrichment – i.e., free age-appropriate summer concerts
- Nature – i.e., Deanna Rose, Children’s Museums, local parks, walking trails
- Math/Science/Engineering – i.e., Union Station
- Collaborate with the Shelter Program Manager and Lead Childcare Provider to prepare a budget for the summer.
- Research free activities for children in the local area.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of childhood developmental stages and working with children who have experienced trauma
- Demonstrate knowledge of and experience with domestic violence
- Working knowledge of Child Care programming and implementation
- Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with a diverse group of people & possess strong communication skills
- Ability to represent the agency by projecting a professional demeanor and appearance, including the qualities of enthusiasm, assertiveness, creativity, and flexibility
- Ability to implement methods of non-violent child discipline
- Able to work under substantial stress and handle frequent crises situations.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
