Job Requirements
- Responds to and investigates allegations of violations of Municipal, Land Development and Property Maintenance Codes to determine validity of complaints and the appropriate course of action to mitigate issues.
- Notification of issues given in writing, by phone, in person and electronically.
- Schedules and performs systematic property maintenance inspections to maintain or achieve minimum property standards.
- Prepares records and reports pertaining to abatements, court actions, daily activities, enforcement actions and inspections.
- Compiles documentation for and issues summons.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, citizens and elected officials; Handle sensitive or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to make presentations
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain City codes and site plans, maps and work plans
- Good driving record
- Building/construction knowledge preferred
- Experience in enforcement, security, compliance-related work including investigating allegations, conducting research and resolving complaints, concerns or conflicts
- ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector Certification is a plus.
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record
Mobility & Movement:
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling to conduct inspections.
- Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated or confined areas.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds (e.g., inspection tools, plans, or small equipment).
- Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans, technical documents, and observe construction details.
- Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection.
- Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors, workers, and the public in noisy environments.
- Use of hands and fingers to handle tools, operate inspection equipment, and use computers/tablets for reporting.
- Work performed in both office and field settings.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and construction site environments (noise, dust, uneven terrain).
- Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region.
