We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Fire Alarm Technician to join our team of professionals. Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, test, maintain, and repair fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72, NFPA 70 (NEC), Florida Fire Prevention Code, and applicable local ordinances.
- Troubleshoot systems deficiencies and acceptance testing of fire alarm systems and associated life safety components.
- Perform annual, semi-annual, and acceptance testing of fire alarm systems and associated life safety components.
- Program, modify, and update fire alarm control panels and system devices as required.
- Review and interpret construction documents, schematics, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
- Prepare inspection reports, deficiency notes, test documentation, and maintenance records for regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate inspections and testing with Fire Marshal personnel, inspectors, contractors, and internal departments.
- Respond to emergency service calls related to fire alarm system failures or impairments.
- Always ensure compliance with City safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with evaluating contractor work for compliance with codes, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Solid understanding of fire alarm system layouts, functionality, testing procedures, and ongoing maintenance requirements.
- Proven troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes of system issues and carry out effective repairs or corrections.
- Comfortable reviewing and applying technical drawings, specifications, and applicable fire and building codes.
- Detail-oriented approach to documentation, including accurate recordkeeping and clear written reports.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills when coordinating with City staff, inspectors, and contractors.
- Self-directed work style with the organizational skills needed to prioritize tasks and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- May require on-call availability, emergency response, or after hours work as needed.
- NICET certification (Level I, II, or III – Fire Alarm Systems) required.
- Fire Alarm Technician certification required.
- Experience working in municipal, educational, healthcare, or government facilities.
- Familiarity with multiple fire alarm manufacturers and platforms.
- Experience coordinating with Fire Marshall of AHJ inspections.
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
Mobility & Movement:
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling to conduct inspections.
- Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated or confined areas.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds (e.g., inspection tools, plans, or small equipment).
- Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans, technical documents, and observe construction details.
- Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection.
- Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors, workers, and the public in noisy environments.
- Use of hands and fingers to handle tools, operate inspection equipment, and use computers/tablets for reporting.
- Work performed in both office and field settings.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and construction site environments (noise, dust, uneven terrain).
- Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region.
