We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Arborist to join our team of professionals. This position offers great opportunity for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of work assignments. JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Enforce tree ordinances
- Schedules and conducts independent field surveys and tree inspections for planting, pruning and/or removal permits.
- Enters inspection information into databases.
- Utilizes tree permit database to monitor, track, and update field work data, generates written correspondence forms, and monitors permitting goals and targets.
- Performs tree and tree root inspections; Assesses trees for health and condition, structure, insects and diseases.
- Records conditions of inspected trees and issues written recommendations for future actions.
- Inspects development sites for tree planting requirements, tree preservation planning, tree cutting applications, and possible violations.
- Reviews and examines site plans and designs to assess impacts on trees.
- Provides educational support to residents.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of urban forestry and arboriculture; municipal tree codes; professional tree assessment standards; tree and tree root health assessment and evaluation; proper pruning techniques and tree removal criteria; advanced level of knowledge of tree biology; tree hazards associated with storm damage response.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to negotiate, mediate and facilitate challenging tree issues with composure and professionalism; interpret and apply municipal tree codes.
- Strong computer skills.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:
- International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certified Arborist preferred.
- Experience as a Municipal Arborist or Urban Forester; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Mobility & Movement:
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling to conduct inspections.
- Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated or confined areas.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds (e.g., inspection tools, plans, or small equipment).
Vision & Hearing:
- Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans, technical documents, and observe construction details.
- Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection.
- Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors, workers, and the public in noisy environments.
Manual Dexterity:
- Use of hands and fingers to handle tools, operate inspection equipment, and use computers/tablets for reporting.
Work Environment:
- Work performed in both office and field settings.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and construction site environments (noise, dust, uneven terrain).
- Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region.
