Safe House Advocate

Safe Voices is seeking a dynamic, versatile, and engaging individual to fill the full-time role of Safe House Advocate. This position is responsible for providing advocacy and support services to survivors of domestic abuse and violence, sex trafficking, and sexual exploitation. Responsibilities include comprehensive safety planning, emotional support, crisis intervention, and general advocacy services for survivors in person at our shelters, over the phone, and through our 24-hour helpline. The Safe House Advocate also assists with the daily operations and programming of the shelters.

The schedule for this position is Sunday-Wednesday, 8.5 hours per day. The schedule will fall within the hours of 10:00am-8:30pm, with specific hours established upon hire based on candidate availability and agency needs. Potential schedules may include 10:00am-6:30pm, 11:00am-7:30pm, or 12:00pm-8:30pm.

Primary Duties:

Individual Advocacy:

  • Provide safety planning, support, crisis intervention, information and referrals to community resources for survivors of domestic abuse and violence, sex trafficking, and sexual exploitation.
  • Provide consistent first-tier coverage for our 24-hour helpline.
  • Complete intakes, assessments, goal planning, case management services, and discharges from the safe house.
  • Actively collaborate with partnering agencies, community resources, as well as Safe Voices’ Housing and Advocacy teams to provide information and referrals necessary to meet the individual’s needs.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the cultural and socioeconomic status of persons served.
  • Maintain all administrative files, client documentations, and records according to agency standards.

Shelter Operations & Program Responsibilities:

  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the Safe House including: monitoring and restocking food supplies, office/shelter supplies, organizing donations, bedroom prepping, house laundry, and general upkeep.
  • Monitor the maintenance of Safe Voices’ shelters including: electricity, heat, plumbing, and security devices, and communicate problems to supervisor as appropriate.
  • Assist with internal administrative needs as assigned.
  • Support with grant writing and reporting.
  • Attend staff development opportunities, trainings, meetings, and agency events.

Qualifications:

  • Pass State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) check
  • Pass Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) check
  • Pass Department of Motor Vehicle check
  • Hold valid Maine driver’s license, reliable transportation and willingness to travel on occasion
  • Experience in crisis and/or advocacy services preferred
  • Thrive working independently, as well as part of many multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent time management skills

Pay & Benefits:

  • Annual pay is $48,750 and will increase based on experience
