Job description:
Position Summary: The Family Law Attorney is employed by a certified domestic and sexual violence center to provide direct representation to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence, and stalking. The Family Law Attorney will represent survivors seeking representation in family law matters, including all aspects of dissolution of marriage proceedings, paternity actions, and other related matters. The supervising attorney may assign other related cases to meet the legal needs of the survivor. The Family Law Attorney will participate in outreach efforts within the community to develop relationships with agencies such as the clerk’s office, the circuit court, law enforcement agencies, state attorneys, agencies working with immigrant, elder, and LGBTQ communities and persons with disabilities, health care providers, and faith-based organizations. The Family Law Attorney will help to develop referral protocols and ways to offer additional venues for survivors to obtain legal representation.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct legal representation to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence, and stalking in family law matters.
- Assess the other needs of survivors and make appropriate referrals for services.
- Conduct outreach in the service area to develop for the center collaborative partnerships with agencies such as the clerk’s office, the circuit court, law enforcement agencies, state attorneys, agencies working with immigrant, elder, and LGBTQ communities and persons with disabilities, health care providers, and faith-based organizations. The Family Law Attorney will help to develop referral protocols and ways to offer additional venues for survivors to obtain legal representation.
- Complete monthly and other reports as required by DCF, VOCA, OAG, and other authorities to monitor the completion of project deliverables.
- Attend meetings, and events as required by SPARCC leadership.
- Participate in trainings to meet continuing education and certification requirements.
- Keep CEO/Supervising Attorney apprised of activities, informally and by written word.
- Perform other duties as necessary or assigned to assist victims of crime
Education and Experience: The candidate will possess a JD from an accredited law school and two years of litigation experience representing clients in family law matters.
Knowledge/Skills Requirements: Must possess a strong understanding of the dynamics of intimate partner violence and the impact of domestic violence on children. The Family Law Attorney will have highly developed interpersonal, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills and must be able to provide effective legal representation with minimal supervision.
Certification or licensing requirements: Florida licensed attorney in good standing with no prior Florida Bar disciplinary proceedings that resulted in the imposition of any penalty.
Physical Requirements: The position requires the physical ability to lift approximately 25 lbs., sit or be on feet for extended periods, bend freely, and reach objects overhead. Must be able to converse on a telephone and use a keyboard effectively.

Compensation: Salary range $80,000-$85,000; will commensurate with education and experience
