Position Summary:
The Care Associate at SAFE on Main provides 24/7 support and advocacy to individuals and families residing in the agency’s domestic violence shelter. As a frontline team member, the Care Associate ensures a safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment for survivors while maintaining continuous coverage of the shelter and responding to crisis calls via the agency’s 24-hour hotline. This role is essential in promoting stability, empowerment, and healing for residents, and works collaboratively with the Care Manager and other staff members to ensure coordinated care and services. This is for a 3rd (overnight) shift position.
Key Responsibilities:
Shelter Support:
Monitor the shelter environment to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and well-being of all residents. Conduct routine safety checks and provide general oversight of facility operations during assigned shifts.
Crisis Line Response:
Serve as the first point of contact for the 24-hour crisis line, providing empathetic listening, safety planning, information, and referrals to callers in crisis.
Resident Advocacy:
Offer emotional support, crisis intervention, and resource guidance to residents, helping them navigate daily needs and connect with supportive services.
Transportation:
Provide local transportation for residents using the agency vehicle, including trips to and from their personal vehicle, appointments, places of employment, or local store as needed.
Intake and Orientation:
Lead shelter intakes by gathering necessary information, explaining shelter policies, and helping new residents acclimate to their surroundings.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of resident interactions, services provided, and shift activities in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws.
Collaboration:
Communicate effectively with fellow Care Associates, Care Managers, and Shelter Director to ensure continuity of care and timely response to resident needs and emergencies.
Conflict Resolution:
Address conflicts or policy violations in a calm, professional manner using trauma-informed, de-escalation techniques.
Training and Meetings:
Participate in mandatory staff training, team meetings, and supervision to enhance knowledge, skills, and coordination across the program.
Policy Adherence:
Follow all agency policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including confidentiality standards under VAWA, HIPAA, ADA, and EEOC requirements.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. Bachelors preferred.
Minimum one year of experience in human services, crisis intervention, or shelter settings preferred.
Additional education or training in social work, psychology, or related fields is a plus.
Knowledge & Skills:
Understanding domestic violence dynamics and trauma-informed practices.
Excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in high-stress or crisis situations.
Basic computer literacy and ability to document case notes and incident reports accurately.
Additional Requirements:
Ohio Driver’s License with a good driving record.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to work evening, overnight, weekend, or holiday shifts as needed.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
