Position Title: Safe House Advocate-Part Time-Preferred Spanish speaking
WORK HOURS: Per Diem - 12 hours shifts
EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: Non-exempt
WORK SCHEDULE: Various Shifts Available: Monday to Friday, Weekends, Day Shifts, Evening Shifts
DEPARTMENT: Safe House
REPORTS TO: Director of Residential services
POSITION SUMMARY
The Safe House Advocate is responsible for providing trauma informed support and advocacy services for victims and survivors at the residential safe house and the 24/7 domestic and sexual violence hotline. Reporting to the Safe House Manager, the Safe House Caseworker provides support, case management, education, programming, referrals, and crisis intervention for clients of all ages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Safe House
- Maintain daily documentation of client records, hotline calls, and files according to organizational policies and procedures.
- Support coordination of supportive services for residents, basic needs acquisition, and onsite or virtual support groups.
- Plan and coordinate education and group programming for clients at the safe house.
- Orient new clients to the safe house and ensure all new client paperwork is complete.
- Ensure cleanliness and maintain upkeep of the safe house.
Hotline
- Answer and respond to hotline communications and conduct intakes, crisis intervention, education, advocacy, and referral services, as needed.
- Make internal referrals for additional services such as legal advocacy and counseling, as appropriate.
- Notify on-call volunteer or advocate upon the activation of the DVRT or SART by law enforcement of the hospital.
Administrative Tasks
- Complete and maintain documentation in accordance with program and agency guidelines.
- Collect and assist in the preparation of monthly and/or quarterly statistics, as required.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Sensitivity towards and understanding of victimization, especially the experience of survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
- Strong listening, communication, and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
- Ability to effectively and independently make decisions based on sound judgement.
- Ability to work under pressure in a calm and reassuring manner.
- Proficient and fluent in Microsoft Office programs.
- Working knowledge of video conferencing software (ie. Zoom, Google Meet, Doxy.me, etc.).
- Spanish speaker preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's Degree (social work, psychology, criminal justice, or human/social science field preferred) or equivalent experience
- Strong working knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Completion of agency 80-hour domestic violence & sexual assault training in the first 90 days of employment, or certificate of completion from another agency
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Clear a criminal history background check.
