Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Safe Flight Instrument, LLC
Plains, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 12/31/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/29/2026

About the Position:

Our senior electrical engineers develop the safety-critical circuitry required in modern avionics, and they also architect how the parts of a system go together to meet the aircraft's functional and safety requirements. Our projects fuse electronic, software, and mechanical features. Senior electrical engineers work hand-in-hand with customers to make sure the product being developed is the right one. When Safe Flight Engineering feels the best way to solve a problem is in the field, engineers are hands-on to instrument simulators and aircraft. This includes utilizing our experimental aircraft for testing and demonstration.

Our senior electrical engineers are leaders of lifecycle of avionics development. Products are initiated in conversations with customers or internally by identifying unmet aviation needs. Safe Flight engineers are responsible for research, design, and testing. Our production and repair facilities are on site, and we stress communication between the Engineering and production teams. Every aspect of our products are influenced by engineering.

Our technologies are a heritage of robust, analog computing integrated with today's digital logic and signal processing. Above all, we are expected to design carefully and analytically, considering what happens in the presence of failures. "We've always done it this way" is never sufficient, and each application has unique challenges and technologies. We don't expect candidates to have memorized specific designs, but we seek electrical engineers that enjoy breaking a problem down to first principles, drafting a solution, fabricating an implementation, and testing it in the lab. Our lab space has electronics rework stations and a walk-in EMC chamber. We also have a vibration table, temperature chambers, and other qualification test equipment to understand the performance of the design in its environment.
