Location: Safe Fleet Mirrors, Elkhart, Indiana
The Production Supervisor, Metal Fabrication is responsible for all activities related to production. This position manages, coordinates and ensures manufacturing short and long-term goals are achieved within designated timelines. This individual will be working cooperatively with operations to ensure that all activities are aligned with corporate growth objectives. This role must support continuous improvements to maintain high efficiency levels throughout the plant.
As a working supervisor, this position will handle timekeeping records, employee training and coaching sessions, performance reports, hiring processes and employee concerns. Working on the floor or in a semi-private office, this role will communicate with team members, other people in management and attend meetings.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
- Maintain and give updates to the shops production schedule
- Understanding of metal fabrication equipment: Tube Benders, Saws, Drills, Presses, Welding
- Communicate all work in progress and inform upper management of potential problems with agreed deadlines
- Coach and train operators to make adjustments to set-ups and programs to improve yield and cycle times
- Provide training in production, in-process quality inspection, material handling, equipment safety, and hazardous materials
- Plan jobs and preventive maintenance to fully utilize machine shop resources, and monitor employees to ensure machines are running at optimal efficiencies
- Increase production and quality, decrease scrap, and constantly improve processes
- Continuous process improvement, lean, 5S
- Work with the planning team to establish work throughput schedule which reflects the shop capacity
- Provides additional support to the department as needed
- Supervises daily labor to complete scheduled production requirements within budgetary guidelines
- Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met
- Ensure compliance to processes and procedures
- Maintain metrics and continuous improvement to perform to the metric expectations
- Ensure accountability to execution
- Communicate with others to problem solve daily issues
- Perform routine maintenance of machining equipment when required
- Adhering to all safety and OSHA compliance standards
- May perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE:
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Supervision with a proven record of team building
- Proven ability to influence and drive measurable results
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to prioritize
- 5 years manufacturing experience
- Knowledge of Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) experience preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Job may requires lifting average weight objects with bending and stooping
- Occasionally lifts heavy objects (up to 50lbs)

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
- While performing the duties of this job, occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions (weather/non-weather)
WORK HOURS:
- Expected to work 40-plus hours weekly
- Work hours requirements will vary with business needs
- Ability to work overtime and weekends
