Production Engineer

Shift: Day Shift, four ten-hour days
Compensation: $80- 95K per year
Why we need you:
With a record backlog of boats to build we are seeking a motivated individual to act as the liaison between the engineering and production department to increase process efficiencies by supporting the team that is building boats. You will be responsible for supporting the Machine Ops, Fabrication, and Marine Systems Integration production processes at SAFE Boats International. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable ensuring a variety of engineering deliverables are prepared and delivered to the production team on time. This role requires proactive problem solving to provide valuable input on design for manufacturing during preliminary design review, and to efficiently address engineering challenges that may arise during production.
What you will do:
- Collaborate with the design engineering team to ensure timely delivery of accurate engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, or any other information required for the production team to efficiently build boats post-award and currently in production.
- Support the production department by acting as a liaison for production managers to the engineering department by relaying information, providing feedback, and resolving any production barriers in a timely manner.
- Work directly within the engineering department to resolve problem reports with short- and long-term corrective actions to increase production efficiency or product manufacturability as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality.
- Mentor production management in streamlining processes and ensuring consistent quality output.
- Develop written standard work procedures with input from the engineering department and production leadership.
- Demonstrate technical expertise to perform root cause analysis – eliminating problems through design analysis, ergonomic issues, and machine or process improvements.
- Study production methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, assembly processes, and engineering practices to suggest modifications that increase efficiency, quality, or reduce waste.
- Study utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and team members to suggest layouts and resource loading that enhance productivity.
- Analyze contract requirements post-award during the post contract process with emphasis on design for manufacturing on a basis that minimizes waste and cost and increases quality
- Contribute to process and continual improvement by identifying opportunities for enhancing production workflows and engineering practices.

- Excellent problem-solving skills with a systems-thinking approach to problem solving.
- Excellent PC computer skills to include intermediate to advanced experience with Solid Edge, Rhino3D, AutoCAD, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Visio, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of lean principles and how to apply them to manufacturing value streams.
- Familiarity with the principles of Lean Manufacturing, Just in Time, and Total Quality Management.
- Ability to convert product designs into production action plans.
- Ability to work independently in an ambiguous environment, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
- Ability to be flexible in working overtime when needed, work different shifts, on short notice as necessary.
Desired skills and Experience:
- Hands-on marine systems installation experience.
- Electrical system design experience.
- Familiarity with ABYC, AWS, ABS, and ISO codes and standards relevant to aluminum boat building.
Required Experience & Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering or commensurate relevant experience as a Production Engineer.
- 5 years of experience as a Production Engineer or similar role in a similar industry.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift up to 40 lbs.
- Grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, stooping, squatting, and stretching
- Listening and hearing ability and visual acuity
- May be able to work at heights
- Must be able to load into, ride, and make assessments while on watercraft, as needed
