Position Summary
- We are seeking a compassionate Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide individualized support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The DSP will assist in health and hygiene, community integration, mobility, communication, socialization, and overall quality of life. This role emphasizes promoting independence, safety, and engagement while helping individuals achieve their personal goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Personal Care: Assist with hygiene, grooming, dressing, eating, and mobility.
- Independence Building: Support meal preparation, light housekeeping, and daily living tasks.
- Goal-Oriented Support: Help individuals achieve personal goals outlined in their Individual Support Plan (ISP).
- Social & Recreational Activities: Encourage community involvement and socialization.
- Health & Safety: Monitor health, assist with medical appointments, and administer medications as trained.
- Behavioral Support: Implement positive reinforcement and behavioral strategies.
- Documentation: Maintain daily logs, progress notes, and incident reports.
- Collaboration: Communicate effectively with team members, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Emergency Readiness: Respond calmly and appropriately in urgent situations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in direct care preferred but not required; paid training is provided.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, empathetic, and committed to supporting individuals with disabilities.
- Valid driver’s license.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Medication Certificate (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
- Physically able to lift, assist with mobility, and respond to emergencies as needed.
