Job Title: Maintenance Technician - Redding

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Location: Redding, CA

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, SAF is a leader in the architectural metal products market with six operating locations in Georgia, Indiana, Tennessee, California, and Texas. We distribute, fabricate, and finish (anodize and paint) aluminum and other products primarily for the commercial construction market.

SUMMARY

This is a position for our manufacturing plant in Redding, CA, where we distribute, fabricate, and anodize aluminum. The maintenance technician will work independently and with other plant personnel to perform preventative, predictive, and routine maintenance tasks. This includes troubleshooting issues, repairing failures of production and facilities equipment, and ensuring maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. A supervisor or manager may assign other duties.

  • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and regular maintenance on plant equipment.
  • Complete maintenance work orders and other tasks assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Repair and maintain plant machinery and equipment, including, but not limited to: cranes, chillers, process heaters, boilers, pumps, saws, air lines, and a cut-to-length line. Energy sources will include, but not limited to: electricity, pneumatics, steam, hydraulics, batteries, stored, and centrifugal energy.
  • Welding MIG/TIG and stick on aluminum and mild steel. Welding tests and other assessments will be required
  • Cutting with oxygen/acetylene and or plasma.
  • Build and weld electrical current-carrying fixtures and other assemblies as required.
  • Perform electrical work not requiring a licensed electrician, such as replacing fuses and working on non-energized circuits.
  • Act as a backup for the grounds and daily checklist.
  • Follow all company safety policies, including lockout/tagout and confined space procedures.
  • Comply with all company environmental procedures.
  • Be flexible and perform other duties as required by your supervisor.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Experience in industrial electrical circuit safety, including Lock Out Tag Out. Also, knowledge of how limit switches, valves, breakers, heaters, fuses, and other equipment affect machinery operation.
  • Basic Centrifugal and positive-pressure pump knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently and with other personnel.
  • Ability to drive a forklift.
  • An acute awareness of chemical hazards and the ability to understand and comply with MSDS information.

REQUIREMENTS – requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Applicant must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Applicant must have at least 2-5 years of experience as a maintenance technician in an industrial setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, welding, mechanics, and plumbing.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics for machinery and electrical systems.
  • Drafting skills.
  • Experience with pump repairs, including rebuilding with mechanical seals.

LANGUAGE SKILLS - Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with groups inside and outside the organization. Must score 5 or better on the ACT WorkKeys Assessments for Workplace Documents.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Must score 5 or better on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment for Applied Mathematics.

Examples of daily tasks include:

  • Decide what information, calculations, or unit conversions to use to solve the problem.
  • Look up a formula and perform single-step conversions within or between systems of measurement. For example, convert centimeters to inches.
  • Calculate using mixed units (e.g., 3.5 hours and 4 hours 30 minutes).
  • Find the best deal using one- and two-step calculations and then compare results.
  • Calculate linear dimensions, perimeters, and areas from fabrication drawings, calling on Algebra or Geometry skills.
  • Calculate percent discounts or markups.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position; constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. The person in this position frequently communicates with customers and their peers and must be able to exchange accurate information. The employee is occasionally required to remain in a stationary position and move around the office area and other locations.

The employee must occasionally maneuver and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, and assess the material and finished product.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All SAF facilities are tobacco-free.
