Position Overview
Sadie Jane Dance Complex is looking for a passionate, prepared, and community-driven Contemporary/Lyrical Dance Instructor & Choreographer to join our growing adult dance program.
This position offers creative freedom and flexibility for an instructor who wants to build meaningful movement experiences while helping dancers grow technically and artistically in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

This role is ideal for someone who values emotional storytelling, intentional movement, musicality, artistry, and strong foundational technique.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction Class Leadership
- Teach one contemporary/lyrical class per week or lead a structured multi-week program
- Create a class structure that reflects your artistic vision and teaching style
- Develop engaging lesson plans that balance:
- Technique
- Across-the-floor work
- Conditioning
- Musicality
- Choreography development
- Performance quality
Choreography Development
- Create original choreography and movement combinations
- Encourage dancers to connect emotionally and artistically to movement
- Foster creativity, confidence, and growth in students of varying experience levels
Preparation Professionalism
- Arrive organized and fully prepared for class each week
- Maintain strong class flow, pacing, and structure
- Communicate clearly and professionally with studio leadership
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive studio culture
Community Environment
- Help create a safe and empowering environment for adult dancers
- Encourage self-expression, individuality, and confidence through movement
- Support SJDC’s mission of making dance more accessible and welcoming for all bodies and experience levels
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Previous dance teaching experience
- Strong background in Contemporary and/or Lyrical dance
- Experience choreographing for classes, showcases, performances, or programs
- Strong understanding of dance technique and movement fundamentals
- Ability to create organized and well-structured classes
- Reliable, communicative, and professional
Preferred
- Experience teaching adults and beginner/intermediate dancers
- Experience creating curriculum or multi-week dance programs
- Passion for emotional storytelling and artistry through movement
- Comfortable adapting to varying skill levels within a class setting
