Pay Range*: $54.49/hr- $85.70/hr

Bonus: [$10,000] signing bonus available to external hires new to MHS employment, contingent upon satisfaction of employment requirements

Position Summary


This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center. The employee shall support Saddleback Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.

Through demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, skills, and competence, the Emergency Department Educator facilitates learning experiences for interdisciplinary personnel through direct and indirect methods. The Educator coordinates, implements, and evaluates educational programs. The Educator acts as an education advisor and consultant to staff, managers and other educators to identify gaps in practice and learning needs of staff. The Educator functions as a clinical and a professional role model for staff; demonstrating accountability, performance, and responsibility in clinical practice. The Educator supports the integration and translation of research into practice as well as participates in performance improvement, evidence-based practice, or research activities utilizing LEAN methodology. The Educator provides clinical leadership and serves as a resource person to facilitate problem-solving and decision making skills of staff. The Educator participates in various committees and projects as it relates to improved patient outcomes. The Educator functions as a change agent to improve patient care and supports interdisciplinary collaboration. The Educator integrates the Code of Ethics into all areas of practice and advocates for patients and staff at all levels.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

1. Identifies, proposes, and implements evidence-based practices and products/equipment to impact quality patient outcomes.

2. Demonstrates the ability to utilize effective critical thinking skills when creating competency validations/curriculum.

3. Ability to apply evidence-based practice to curriculum and translate evidence-based practice findings into nursing practice to enhance patient outcomes.

4. Ability to coordinate and teach content in area of specialty to advance nursing knowledge and increase community awareness as needed.

5. Serves as an expert in clinical practice, demonstrating advanced clinical decision-making skills, and functions as a positive role model and consultant.

6. Ability to coach and mentor staff and other members of the healthcare team.

7. Supports Interprofessional collaboration when creating or educating staff.

8. Demonstrates ability to inform and educate staff regarding performance improvement strategies and models to achieve quality patient outcomes using LEAN methodology.

9. Participates in and assists the staff in developing relevant research or evidence-based projects.

10. Leads emergency department onboarding, annual skills/competency planning, and continuing education efforts to maintain staff competencies, regulatory compliance, and alignment with current evidence-based practice. Coordinates content delivery, manages documentation, and partners with clinical leadership to ensure completion of mandatory requirements.

11. Coordinates pediatric readiness efforts within the Emergency Department, ensuring staff education, age-appropriate equipment availability, and compliance with pediatric standards of care. Supports initiatives to improve quality and safety of pediatric patient outcomes in alignment with national guidelines.

12. Coordinates geriatric emergency care initiatives to maintain compliance with Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) standards. Promotes staff education, age-friendly practices, and performance improvement efforts to enhance care for older adults.

13. Participates in professional organizations and ensures national guidelines, standards, policy statements are incorporated into curricula, policies, and unit/system workflows.

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.

Qualifications


Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimum five (5) years recent direct clinical experience in emergency services preferred
  • Teaching experience preferred; including knowledge of adult education learning theories and curriculum design.
  • Experience with precepting, staff onboarding, regulatory education, and coordination of department-wide competencies preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Windows computer skills including proficient use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Current California RN license required.
  • Current AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Current AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
  • Current AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
o AHA BLS Instructor certification preferred.
  • Geriatric Emergency Nurse (GENE) certificate required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Certified Emergency Nurse Certification preferred.
