Night Custodian

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.

Position Summary

The Night Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the school campus. Working primarily during the afternoon and evening hours, this position performs daily cleaning and custodial duties in classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, and other school facilities.

The Night Custodian also supports evening school activities and helps ensure that facilities are properly cleaned, secured, and prepared for students and employees the following school day. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and committed to maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in a school environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop, and maintain floors throughout assigned areas.
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles and transport waste to designated collection areas.
• Clean and disinfect desks, tables, counters, door handles, and other frequently touched surfaces.
• Clean and restock restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, dispensers, stalls, walls and supplies.
• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of entrances, stairwells, hallways, and other high-traffic areas.
• Perform periodic floor care, including machine scrubbing and carpet cleaning as needed.
• Assist with room setups and breakdowns for meetings, athletic events, performances, parent programs, and other school activities.
• Respond to custodial needs that arise during after-school programs and evening events.
• Assist with snow and ice removal from entrances, sidewalks, and other campus areas when necessary.
• Monitor custodial supplies and notify the Director of Facilities when materials need to be reordered.
• Properly use, maintain, and store custodial equipment, cleaning products, and chemicals in accordance with safety procedures.
• Identify and report maintenance concerns, damage, safety hazards, plumbing issues, or other facility problems.
• Secure assigned areas at the end of the evening, including checking doors, windows, lights, and designated equipment.
• Follow all school safety, security, and emergency procedures.
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality and professionalism while working in classrooms, offices, and other areas containing student or employee information.
• Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, contractors, and other members of the Facilities team.
• Perform other custodial, maintenance, and campus support duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.

Qualifications

• Prior custodial, janitorial, facilities, or building-maintenance experience preferred.
• Experience working in a school environment is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and complete assigned responsibilities with limited supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, students, parents, and visitors.
• Ability to safely operate common custodial equipment and use cleaning products according to manufacturers and school guidelines.
• Willingness to assist with occasional evening events or other facility’s needs.
• Successful completion of any background checks or other requirements applicable to employment in a school environment.

Physical Requirements

The position requires regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting throughout the shift. The employee must be able to:

• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Move tables, chairs, trash containers, custodial equipment, and other school furnishings.
• Operate vacuums, floor machines, carpet cleaners, and other custodial equipment.
• Use stairs and ladders when necessary.
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Perform repetitive physical tasks for extended periods.

Work Schedule

The regular schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The schedule may occasionally be adjusted to accommodate school events, holidays, weather-related needs, or other campus operations.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
