Job Description:
Under the general supervision of designated administrators, support active engagement in emergency planning and training in accordance with the University Comprehensive All Hazards Emergency Plan under FEMA NIMS and JCS standards, to include fire and life safety education programs. Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance programs pertaining to all fire suppression and monitoring equipment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for emergency incident training in compliance with FEMA "all-hazard" approach to any emergency incidents that could cause disruption to university classes and/or facilities. Core program attributes are incident prevention; mitigation; preparation for identified vulnerabilities, emergency response planning and recovery methods planning.
- Responsible for aspects of Fire Safety planning and training for all facilities
- Ensure compliance with all national, state and local statutory and regulatory NFP A fire safety codes
- Communicate with local Fire Departments and with State and local Fire Marshall Offices as needed
- Schedule and participate in building assessments and inspections for "'all hazards" planning
- Schedule and participate in fire alarm system inspections, fire extinguisher inspections, kitchen hood system inspections, and other systems as needed
- Schedule and conduct fire and/or emergency evacuation drills in dormitory buildings and other facilities as needed for training and compliance
- Respond when necessary to any fire related or all-hazard emergencies at facilities as needed
- Assist with Emergency Management planning, training and operations for Federal and state compliance
- Act as Liaison to designated Emergency Evacuation Coordinators for training on evacuation procedures
- Communicate with campus operations and construction depts. Review construction plans when necessary
- Coordinate with outside vendors that installation or repair of fire equipment or fire suppression systems
- Keep accurate records of all annual safety inspections and emergency maintenance repairs
- Plan life-cycle replacement for fire alarms, devices, sprinklers by NFP A code and/or manufacture specs
Requirements:
Position is part-time which may require response to campus during off hours, as well as availability for phone conversations.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS NEEDED:
- High School Diploma is required; Bachelor's degree preferred. (Prior Fire Safety experience may be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree)
- Firefighter certification highly desirable
- Clean criminal record and driving history
- Minimum 5 years Fire Safety experience
- Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and time management skills
- Computer proficiency
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- EMR/EMT certification
