Position Purpose: The classroom teacher is responsible for all aspects of creating a dynamic Montessori learning environment for students in a preschool classroom in conjunction with an assistant teacher.
Essential Functions
Classroom Preparation and Maintenance
- Plan upcoming curriculum and prep that needs to go into the prepared environment updated monthly while directing/collaborating with your teaching assistant
- Responsible for dictating areas that need to be changed with an appropriate timeline, and as yearly curriculum progresses
- Responsible for creating materials for the classroom
- Keeping the classroom and communal spaces tidy and organized
- Implement classroom management techniques that are sustained through worktime and circle time and transitions. Create a respectful classroom environment built on grace and courtesy
- Maintain an overview of the class during work times and recess duty
- Communicate a plan for sharing overview and lesson giving opportunities with teaching assistant
- Help manage and guide children through conflict
- Maintain ratio coverage at all times in accordance with California State Licensing rules and regulations
- Collaborate on lesson plans as a team with other leads and maintain overview and progression of curriculum in your classrooms
- Follows lesson plans to execute the curriculum
- Presenting curricular lessons during whole group instruction (Morning meeting, prayer/meditation, music, curricular lessons)
- Create a differentiated learning plan for each child and be able to match them with the appropriate materials within the scope and sequence of the Montessori curriculum
- Track daily attendance through school's reporting tools
- Oversees and is involved in all documentation and reporting (emailing parents, SeeSaw posts, learning services, outside supports, incident reports)
- Maintain student records, work samples throughout the year, documenting student progress
- Prepares (Assess & write) and leads parent teacher conferences (Fall, Feb, Spring)
- Available for touch points with parents concerning behavior or academic needs
- Attend monthly divisional meetings and participate as an active member of the preschool team; attend required P-8 and All School gatherings

- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
- Primary (Ages 3-6years) Montessori certification required (AMS/AMI or equivalent certification) from a MACTE accredited program
- A minimum of two years as a lead teacher in a Montessori classroom
- Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English
- Fluent in Google Suite, Zoom, Canva
- Master’s degree preferred
- Works in a stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Be able to regularly and safely lift up to 30 lbs.
- Be able to crawl, bend, stoop, reach and sit on the floor
- Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and work regularly in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold typical to the Peninsula of the Bay Area.
- Ability to travel safely and comfortably across a 64 acre campus
