Job Summary
The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for coordinating clinical education for students in the DMS program. This role serves as the primary liaison between the program and its clinical affiliate sites, ensuring students receive meaningful, high-quality clinical experiences. The Clinical Coordinator works closely with the Program Director to evaluate clinical site effectiveness, manage student placements, and maintain strong relationships with clinical partners. The ideal candidate is a well-networked sonography professional with deep ties to the imaging community and a passion for developing the next generation of sonographers.
General Accountabilities
- Coordinate student placements and rotations at assigned DMS program clinical affiliates.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the program and clinical site preceptors and staff.
- Review and track student progress throughout clinical rotations, including grades, attendance, and competency completion.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of clinical affiliates and recommend improvements or new site partnerships as needed.
- Advise and mentor students throughout their clinical experience.
- Maintain accurate and organized student records and clinical documentation.
- Coordinate the gathering of agency-specific documentation necessary for student placement.
- Build and maintain a strong network of clinical partners across the region to expand placement opportunities.
- Participate in program, department, and institutional committees as assigned.
- Maintain current knowledge of sonographic techniques and methodology through continuing professional development and in-service requirements.
Job Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Current ARDMS credential(s) in the specialty areas in which student evaluation is performed.
- Minimum of two years of full-time professional experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer.
- Established professional network within the sonography or medical imaging community, preferably in the Sacramento region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience precepting, training, or mentoring students or new hires in a clinical setting.
- Familiarity with programmatic accreditation standards (CAAHEP/JRC-DMS).
- Connections to imaging departments at hospitals and health systems in the greater Sacramento area.
