What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Front Desk / Medical Assistant / Medical Admin position at Sacramento Sierra Dermatology?
About Sacramento Sierra Dermatology:
Sacramento Sierra Dermatology offers dermatologic care for all ages, from newborn to adult.
We are a new practice located in Citrus Heights, CA eager to provide quality care to our community.
Job Description:
THIS IS A FULL TIME, 40 HOUR PER WEEK, SALARIED POSITION - HEALTH BENEFITS WILL BE OFFERED.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in a career in health care - such as a future nursing student, future PA student, or future medical student interested in dermatology.
This position will fulfill application hour requirements for graduate programs (PA, NP). A one-year commitment is strongly preferred but for the right candidate who is applying to programs we could consider shorter time commitment (6 or 9 months, for example).
This is a "combined position" that includes medical front desk / receptionist tasks, medical assistant tasks, and practice administrative tasks.
The medical front desk is responsible for maintaining a welcoming and helpful environment at the front desk while checking in and checking out patients.
Job responsibilities include replying to phone messages, answering the phone directly when available to do so, scheduling appointments, helping to process referrals, scanning intake forms and other records, registering patients in the electronic system, collecting copays, and initiating medication prior authorizations and other procedure authorizations.
The medical assistant role involves assisting our board-certified physician as needed with rooming patients, skin biopsy procedures, taking blood pressure, light procedure documentation (the overall amount of scribing in the EMR is minimal), and helping the doctor maintain the lab (cleaning instruments, completing specimen requisition forms).
Administrative tasks include making phone calls to patients and following up on prescription authorizations.
The right candidate for the position must be comfortable talking to patients (guidance will be provided regarding result phone calls etc and the physician is available to answer questions). Patient communication and interaction, both in person and via phone, is a crucial aspect of the position.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a medical office position is not required but it is helpful; MA certification is NOT required
- College degree / college degree in progress is preferred
- We are willing to train for dermatology-specific tasks if the applicant’s previous experience is in another specialty
- The ideal candidate will be reliable, punctual, willing to learn, enjoy working with patients, and have an interest in both "front office" and "back office" responsibilities.
- Professional and helpful attitude
