The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the general repair and upkeep of the buildings and maintenance of the Sacramento Children’s Home and Crisis Nursery grounds, including aesthetics, to ensure they are in safe working condition for the children and staff. The position requires an emphasis be placed on ensuring the Residential Program is maintained to meet Community Care Licensing Standards at all times.
- Inspect each residential cottage daily to look for items needing repair, cleaning outside of the scope of the residential program and painting.
- Document these items daily as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Complete the Monthly Safety Inspection for the residential cottages.
- Repair, clean, and paint these items daily or in order of importance in coordination with the Maintenance Supervisor’s feedback.
- Make repairs to sheetrock and texture walls daily and/or when needed.
- Maintain the grounds in a clean and orderly.
- Trim bushes and low tree branches, weed and spray for weeds, blow and pick up leaves, and remove trash from the campus and crisis nurseries.
- Ensure the lawns on campus and at the crisis nurseries are mowed and all of the sidewalks and building areas are trimmed and edged.
- Maintain and repair sprinkler systems to keep them in working order including setting run times appropriate for the various seasons.
- Clear gutters, rooftops and sidewalks of debris as needed.
- Ensure that weed killer, fertilizer and all other chemicals are handled, applied and stored in a safe manner.
- Repair, paint and replace fences as needed.
- Clean, maintain and repair all equipment, machinery and tools on a regular basis.
- Check all work orders daily and review with the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Assist repair/maintenance to complete work order, including but not limited to, plumbing, painting, carpentry, general repair/maintenance, etc.
- Inspect and clean up the work area as necessary upon completion of the work order.
- Upon completion of any work order, fill out documentation to indicate the work was done.
- Maintain and repair grounds maintenance tools and equipment as necessary. Seek outside repair as necessary.
- Responsible for maintenance and repairs to the exterior of buildings. Request assistance with exterior repairs as necessary.
- Schedule appropriate time to complete the work order.
- Prepare necessary tools, supplies and equipment, coordinating with external vendors or contractors as necessary.
- Work with other maintenance personnel on large remodeling or building projects as necessary.
- Periodically make preventative grounds maintenance inspections, properly record inspection, arrange for the correction of any noted problems and inform the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Walk through each cottage daily and paint/touch up all areas to as needed.
- Paint rooms of cottages, recreation hall, behavior management center regularly.
- Purchase and keep in stock all paint and paint supplies as approved by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Set up chairs and tables for meetings and special events.
- Assist with vehicle inspections as needed.
- Pick up donated items as necessary.
- Assist staff with moving nad relocating office furniture as needed.
- Design and complete special projects as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE: Mon-Fri, 8:00am – 4:30pm
SALARY: $21.50 - $24.18 per hour, to start
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
One-year of experience in residential painting (patching and preparation) and general maintenance repairs is required.
Must be at least 21 years old
Driving is an essential function of this job, and as such, employees in this position will be required to furnish their own vehicle to be used in the course of employment. A valid driver’s license and minimum insurance coverage is required.
