Position Description:
This position will be responsible for providing engineering support to improve the efficiency of the plant. The Process Engineer is responsible for evaluation of process design parameters and leading measures for improvements to increase productivity, process quality, and overall competitiveness through improved manufacturing costs. This role is responsible for improving process safety, reliability, yield, quality, and cost through data-driven process optimization, equipment performance improvement, and disciplined change management. The position partners closely with Operations, EHS, Quality, Maintenance, and R&D to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient production within a regulated chemical manufacturing environment
Key Responsibilities:
- HSSEE - Actively support the implementation and maintenance of SACHEM’s HSSEE and Quality Management Systems – SACHEM Integrated Management Systems (SIMS).
- Works on continuous improvement efforts related to increasing manufacturing productivity. Utilizes Lean Six Sigma methodology as appropriate to solve problems in a data-driven, fact based, and sustainable manner.
- Provide day-to-day process engineering support to manufacturing to resolve process upsets and quality deviations
- Monitors process equipment to identify potential gaps and develops creative and preventative solutions to eliminate the recurrence of those problems
- Evaluates downtime trends, cycle time and OEE trends and works to implement sustainable solutions to improve those trends
- Identifies areas for improved efficiency, safety, yield, and production rates
- Troubleshoots chemical process issues in a timely manner and identifies solutions which reduce downtime and minimize maintenance costs.
- Develops and updates the technical content of process operating procedures to ensure that the documentation is accurate and meets regulatory requirements.
- Works with the training manager to develop training materials for new and changed installations.
- Assists in determining product specifications for new products and markets.
- Works with product and project design teams to realize new, or improved, manufacturing processes.
- Oversees development demonstration runs in small-scale equipment and/or full-scale production equipment.
- Recommends and champions process changes/MOCs, derived from statistical data which improves OEE, product quality, safety, and reduce product costs. Ensures process changes follow MOCc requirements and are properly documented, reviewed and implemented.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering required
- 2-5 years of related experience in chemical manufacturing as a process, production or plant engineer
- Demonstrate ability to understand the process. Be able to read and markup P&IDs, PFD, ISOs.
- Working knowledge of FMEAs, PHAs, and root cause analysis tools.
- Six Sigma Black Belt Certification and successful completion of several process improvement projects (>$1MM in actual savings)
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Proficient in statistical analysis tools.
- Understanding of PSM and RMP regulations as they relate to daily manufacturing operations.
- Ability to develop a conceptual design for small improvement projects in sufficient detail for preliminary feasibility screening.
- Basic cost estimation skills and understanding of production cost models.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams, to accomplish goals.
- Ability to understand complex information, quantitative and qualitative, in order to optimize workflow and procedures.??
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot process problems in a timely manner.
- Able to speak clearly, and persuasively, to all audiences.
- Works within approved budget and schedule constraints.
