Scope of Responsibility:
The Racking/Finishing Specialist plays a critical role in the Galvanizing process. This position is responsible for preparing, moving, and hanging steel materials for galvanizing, as well as correcting imperfections and ensuring finished products meet Sabre’s safety and quality standards.
Essential Duties
- Receive steel material, remove stencils/grease, and prepare for galvanizing.
- Hang steel products (up to 75 lbs.) on hooks, wires, or chains and attach to overhead cranes.
- Safely operate forklifts, jib cranes, and overhead cranes to move steel products.
- File or grind excess zinc, ash, or drip marks created during the hot-dip process.
- Deburr and clean threads; repair uncoated areas with zinc-based alloys, zinc dust paints, or metallizing spray.
- Count, weigh, or measure products and verify against bills of lading or work orders.
- Tag and identify materials and move them to appropriate staging areas.
- Inspect all lifting equipment (forklifts, cranes, slings, chains, etc.) prior to use.
- Inspect materials both before galvanizing and after finishing to ensure compliance with Sabre safety and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area through housekeeping practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Management.
Position Requirements:
- Ability to understand basic verbal English is required
- Experience using hand tools, such as a grinder or file, is highly preferred
- Experience using forklifts and cranes highly preferred
- Ability to read, write and speak English is highly preferred
- Prior experience in a manufacturing facility highly preferred
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- Regular and timely attendance is required
Physical Requirements:
- Heavy work: exert up to 100 lbs occasionally, 75 lbs frequently, and 50 lbs constantly.
- Ability to climb, lift, balance, walk, stoop, bend, twist, crawl, and handle materials for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity, repetitive hand/wrist motions, and steady arm-hand coordination required.
- Ability to safely use ladders, manlifts, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
- Must work in an open environment exposed to extreme temperatures and stand for long shifts (including weekends).
- Ability to concentrate for extended periods and accurately observe details and measurements.
- Visual acuity to inspect materials, identify defects, and confirm quality standards.
