Duties
- Conduct engaging classroom sessions covering topics such as traffic laws, air brake systems, manual transmission operation, tanker operations, and commercial driving techniques.
- Provide hands-on behind-the-wheel training for students operating tractor-trailers, including truck driving, bus driving, and commercial truck driving skills.
- Assess student progress through evaluations aligned with FMCSA regulations and DOT standards, providing constructive feedback to enhance learning outcomes.
- Ensure all training activities comply with federal and state regulations related to commercial driving, including DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Teach proper vehicle inspection procedures, focusing on safety checks for air brakes, tanker loads, and other critical systems.
- Maintain detailed records of student performance, attendance, and progress in accordance with CDL licensing requirements.
- Foster a positive learning environment that emphasizes safety, professionalism, and adherence to traffic laws while motivating students to excel.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in truck driving or tractor-trailer operation with a strong understanding of commercial vehicle handling.
- Prior classroom teaching or adult education experience preferred; ability to effectively communicate complex concepts clearly.
- Knowledge of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) rules governing commercial driving.
- Certification or experience in commercial driving instruction is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with air brake systems, manual transmissions, tanker operations, and bus driving is essential.
- Ability to teach in a classroom setting as well as provide practical behind-the-wheel training safely.
- Strong understanding of traffic laws and safety protocols related to commercial trucking and passenger transportation.
