Saber Power Services, a portfolio company of Greenbelt Capital Partners, is a fully integrated electrical power system services firm providing end-to-end solutions across utility, renewables and battery storage, industrial, petrochemical, and other markets. Based in Houston, Texas, Saber Power offers deep subject matter expertise and uses an engineering-led approach to designing, installing, testing, and maintaining medium and high-voltage electrical infrastructure. Position Summary:
The Structural Engineer II performs moderate to complex structural design and analysis for high-voltage substation projects with limited supervision. This role builds on foundational engineering skills to take ownership of design packages, coordinate across disciplines, mentor entry-level staff, and contribute to efficient execution of EPC project workflows. The Engineer II is expected to exercise sound engineering judgment, develop detailed deliverables, and increasingly interface with clients and construction teams. Successful candidate may be place in Structural Engineer II, III, or IV title depending on level of knowledge and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze substation steel structures, equipment foundations, cable trench systems, and control buildings.
- Prepare detailed design calculations, drawings, and material take-offs.
- Apply load combinations including wind, seismic, and electrical equipment loads per applicable codes.
- Coordinate design activities with multidiscipline project teams and external stakeholders.
- Review vendor drawings and submittals for structural compliance.
- Provide limited technical support during procurement and construction.
- Mentor junior engineers and drafters as assigned.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or other relevant degree program, from an ABET accredited program is required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain PE within one year of hire.
- Structural Engineer (SE) license is preferred.
- Four (4) years of structural design experience is required; experience with substation or utility projects is preferred
- Understanding of structural analysis and steel/concrete design principles
- Technical Skills:
- Understanding of structural analysis and design principles.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, STAAD Pro or RISA.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Eagerness to mentor and grow within the power and utilities sector.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
