Director / Transmission
Saber Power Services, a portfolio company of Greenbelt Capital Partners, is a fully integrated electrical power system services firm providing end-to-end solutions across utility, renewables and battery storage, industrial, petrochemical, and other markets. Based in Houston, Texas, Saber Power offers deep subject matter expertise and uses an engineering-led approach to designing, installing, testing, and maintaining medium and high-voltage electrical infrastructure. Saber Power Services is seeking a driven and technically accomplished Director of Engineering – Transmission to join our growing team. This position will be located in Houston, TX, either in Clear Lake or The Woodlands. This leadership position will focus on the design and execution of high-voltage transmission line projects (34.5 kV–500 kV), including overhead and underground systems, associated civil/structural components, and integration with substations and renewable generation interconnections.
The ideal candidate will combine deep technical knowledge of transmission design, construction, and standards with strong leadership, project management, and client engagement skills. This individual will play a key role in ensuring technical excellence, consistent engineering practices, and the continued growth of Saber’s transmission engineering capabilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Growth
- Establish a long-term vision and roadmap to expand market presence in utility, renewable, and EPC sectors.
- Champion innovation through standardization, modernized design practices, automation, and integrated digital workflows.
- Define and track key performance indicators including proposal win rate, engineering efficiency, utilization, and client satisfaction.
Sales & Client Engagement
- Represent Saber Power Services at trade shows, conferences, and industry events (shared responsibility across leadership team).
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing utility, developer, and EPC clients.
- Support the estimating and business development teams by providing technical input on scope, schedule, and cost estimates.
- Prepare proposals, technical scopes of work, and client-facing presentations.
- Collaborate with account managers and project teams to provide technical support during project pursuit and execution phases.
Project Management & Execution
- Act as liaison between Estimating, Project Management Office (PMO), and Engineering disciplines (Civil, Structural, Electrical).
- Lead internal project kickoff meetings, ensuring alignment on project scope, deliverables, and client expectations.
- Oversee engineering execution from project award through construction support, ensuring:
- Compliance with design standards, QA/QC processes, and customer requirements
- Budget and schedule adherence across all engineering deliverables
- Support project teams in developing efficient, constructible designs and technical solutions to field challenges.
- Provide technical mentorship and training to transmission engineers and designers.
- Build, develop, and retain a high performing engineering team through mentorship and accountability.

- Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluations of team members.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across engineering disciplines.
Engineer of Record (EOR) Duties
- Serve as Engineer of Record for transmission projects.
- Lead QA/QC reviews and ensure adherence to Saber’s engineering standards and procedures.
- Provide oversight to developing engineers as they progress toward professional licensure and EOR responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering (Power Systems or Transmission focus preferred).
- PE license (Professional Engineer) required
- 10 years of experience in the design and management of high-voltage transmission line projects.
- Strong understanding of:
- Overhead line design (69 kV–500 kV), structure loading, and conductor selection
- Foundation design, line routing, and environmental/permitting considerations
- Underground transmission design, cable ratings, and installation methods (preferred)
- NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and applicable utility and regional standards
- Proficiency with:
- PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER
- AutoCAD / Civil 3D
- Sag10, LPILE, MFAD and other relevant design tools
- Familiarity with BESS, renewable interconnections, and substation tie-ins is preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading multi-discipline engineering teams and managing complex EPC projects.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to present technical information clearly to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel for site visits, client meetings, and industry events.
