Position Summary:
The Transmission Designer IV is an expert-level technical professional responsible for leading complex transmission design efforts, providing high-level technical guidance, and supporting strategic initiatives. This role leads transmission design projects, ensures technical quality, and mentors junior staff across multiple levels. Ideal candidates bring deep transmission design expertise and strong leadership capability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee transmission line design from concept through construction, including routing, structure design, conductor selection, and material standards.
- Perform and/or review studies such as system load flow, reliability assessments, structure and foundation analysis, and clearance studies.
- Provide final technical review and approval of drawings, calculations, design criteria, and engineering documentation.
- Participate in investigations for complex projects, evaluate existing line performance, and develop remediation or upgrade solutions.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole/Tower, AutoCAD, and other specialized modeling tools.
- Coordinate design activities across large, multi-disciplinary project teams and external stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory, code, and internal engineering standards; contribute to the development of new standards and best practices.
- Mentor, train, and technically guide Designer I–III staff and assist in staff skill development.
- Support project management through technical input on schedules, budgets, risk assessments, and design strategies.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives, technology evaluation, and process optimization.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested by management.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field is preferred
- 8 years of experience in transmission line design, with expert-level proficiency in design and modeling tools.
- Mastery of PLS-CADD and advanced modeling tools for transmission applications.
- Extensive knowledge of NESC, IEEE, ASCE, and utility transmission standards.
- Proven ability to lead complex design efforts and provide technical leadership across project teams.
- Skills:
