Apprentice / Welder
Saber Power Services, a portfolio company of Greenbelt Capital Partners, is a fully integrated electrical power system services firm providing end-to-end solutions across utility, renewables and battery storage, industrial, petrochemical, and other markets. Based in Houston, Texas, Saber Power offers deep subject matter expertise and uses an engineering-led approach to designing, installing, testing, and maintaining medium and high-voltage electrical infrastructure. Saber Power Services is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Apprentice Welder to support our field and shop welding operations. In this role, you will work under the supervision of experienced welders and foremen to assist in the fabrication, installation, and repair of structural and electrical support components used in substation and industrial projects.
This entry-level position is ideal for individuals interested in developing a long-term career in industrial welding, fabrication, or field services within the power industry.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with welding and metal fabrication tasks including cutting, fitting, grinding, and tacking.
- Support welding operations on substation steel structures, bus systems, conduit supports, and other electrical infrastructure components.
- Learn and perform various welding processes such as Stick (SMAW), MIG (GMAW), and flux-core (FCAW) under supervision.
- Help with material handling, layout, and equipment setup for welding tasks in both shop and field environments.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
- Follow directions from journeyman welders, foremen, and safety personnel.
- Adhere to all Saber Power Services safety standards, including use of PPE, hot work procedures, and job hazard assessments.
- Participate in on-the-job training to develop welding techniques and industry knowledge.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested by management.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Enrollment in or recent completion of a welding program or technical training preferred.
- Prior exposure to industrial, utility, or electrical construction environments is a plus.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools, grinders, torches, and welding equipment.
- OSHA 10 certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Physically able to lift 50 lbs, work outdoors, and perform physical tasks as needed.
