Accounting & Finance Manager

S9 Architecture is an award-winning architecture and design studio based in New York City. Our work spans multifamily residential, mixed-use, hospitality, workplace, adaptive reuse, and urban projects throughout North America. We are seeking an organized, proactive, and collaborative Accounting & Finance Manager to support the financial operations of our growing practice.
The Accounting & Finance Manager will report directly to the firm’s leadership and work closely with the Founding Principal and external financial consultant. This role oversees the firm’s day-to-day accounting and financial operations and will manage and coordinate with the firm’s Billing Manager and related accounting functions.
This position is highly collaborative and interacts regularly with studio leadership, project managers, consultants, and external advisors. The ideal candidate is comfortable working within a creative, fast-paced professional services environment and is capable of balancing accounting rigor with strong communication and organizational skills.
Financial Operations & Accounting
- Manage the firm’s accounting operations utilizing Deltek Vantagepoint ERP software
- Oversee accounts receivable processes, including invoice tracking, collections coordination, consultant invoicing, and client follow-up
- Monitor cash flow and provide regular reporting to leadership
- Manage accounts payable processes including vendor setup, invoice review, coding, approvals, and payment processing
- Coordinate and track subconsultant contracts, invoices, and payments
- Process employee expense reimbursements and corporate credit card reconciliations
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and month-end close activities
- Maintain general ledger accounts and support accruals, fixed assets, and depreciation schedules
- Support payroll processing, payroll record maintenance, and annual compensation adjustments
- Coordinate with external CPA and consultants regarding tax filings, compliance, and annual reporting
- Prepare and file 1099s and quarterly sales tax returns
- Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis
Team & Operational Coordination
- Manage and coordinate with the firm’s Billing Manager and related accounting support functions
- Support project managers and leadership with financial reporting and project accounting information
- Help maintain organized financial systems, records, and reporting procedures
- Participate in improving operational workflows and accounting processes as the firm continues to grow
Qualifications
- 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within architecture, engineering, design, or other professional services firms
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- Strong understanding of project-based accounting environments
- Experience with Deltek Vision or Deltek Vantagepoint strongly preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting/ERP systems
- Strong organizational, communication, and follow-through skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented studio environment
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting

Compensation: $100,000-$120,000 based upon experience, qualifications and education.
