What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Peer Specialist - CORE program position at S.T.E.P. by S.T.E.P. Inc.?
SBS is looking for a Peer Advocate/Specialist to work with individuals who are identified as HARP/CORE service eligible in St. Lawrence county. Eligible candidates should possess a valid, NYS Driver's License and have the ability to travel within St. Lawrence County 90% of the time. A company vehicle will be provided.
Position Title: CORE PEER SPECIALIST
Position Summary:
To provide self-help, advocacy and psychosocial educational support to persons who are active or former recipients of mental health and/or substance abuse services. Service provision may take place within a mental health setting, within the community, or both.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Provide education/information about community resources.
- Assist individuals with submission of paperwork and applications.
- Assist during the referral, assessment, and acceptance process with another human service agency.
- Collaborate with other providers assisting the individual being served.
- Research information and resources needed to provide services or perform job duties.
- Travel within St. Lawrence County and in rare instances outside of the County.
- Document services provided in an electronic health record
- Be available to work flexible hours based on the needs of individuals we serve
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualification:
Must be self-motivated, independent, organized, detail oriented, efficient and have above average communication skills. Basic writing, math, computer skills are essential to this position. Must possess a clean NYS Driver’s License. Must possess Peer Specialist Certification prior to hire or within three months after coming on board. Must have lived experience with adversity and overcoming such as all SBS staff are expected to serve as role models of hope and recovery for the individuals we serve, the providers we collaborate with, and the larger community as a whole. Must be able to Collaborate and communicate well with other staff, programs, departments of SBS to ensure efficiency of all daily functions of the agency.
