S & S Electrical Services is a growing electrical contractor serving commercial/residential, industrial, and service customers throughout Central Virginia. We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Payroll & Human Resources Administrator to join our team.
This position is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys wearing multiple hats. You'll oversee payroll, benefits administration, recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, workers' compensation, and HR process improvement while partnering closely with company leadership to help build and support an outstanding workplace culture.

What You'll Do
- Process weekly payroll accurately and on time.
- Manage employee timekeeping, PTO, payroll changes, and payroll records.
- Administer employee benefits, retirement plans, and benefit enrollments.
- Coordinate recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding.
- Manage employee personnel files and HRIS records.
- Coordinate workers' compensation claims and return-to-work programs.
- Maintain OSHA and HR compliance documentation.
- Prepare certified payroll and prevailing wage reports when required.
- Assist with employee relations, performance documentation, and policy administration.
- Develop and improve HR policies, procedures, forms, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain the Employee Handbook and ensure compliance with employment laws.
- Support leadership with reporting, workforce planning, and process improvements.
- Serve as a trusted resource for employee payroll and HR questions.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3–5 years of Payroll and Human Resources experience.
- Experience processing payroll and administering employee benefits.
- Strong knowledge of payroll practices, employment laws, and HR compliance.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field.
- SHRM-CP, PHR, CPP, or FPC certification.
- Experience in the construction, electrical, or skilled trades industry.
- Experience with certified payroll, prevailing wage reporting, and workers' compensation administration.
- Bilingual is a plus
