Title: Structural Engineer (Licensed P.E.)
Type: Full-Time | Permanent | Fully On-Site
Location: Royal Oak, MI (Candidates must currently reside in or within a commutable distance to work fully on-site in Royal Oak, MI)
Position Overview:
An established architectural and engineering firm is seeking a Structural Engineer (Licensed P.E.) to play a key role in expanding its in-house engineering capabilities. This individual will lead the design and delivery of structural systems across a diverse portfolio, including healthcare, institutional, and commercial projects, while collaborating closely with internal architectural teams and external consultants. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role offering the opportunity to shape and influence the firm’s growing structural engineering practice. The ideal candidate is both technically strong and highly collaborative, with the ability to work independently while integrating seamlessly within a multi-disciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, analyze, and produce stamped structural construction documents across a variety of structural systems
- Perform structural analysis and member sizing to support safe and efficient design solutions
- Develop foundation designs based on soil conditions, occupancy requirements, and project scope
- Coordinate all structural elements within the firm’s BIM (Revit-based) environment
- Collaborate in multi-disciplinary coordination meetings to resolve design conflicts with architectural and MEP teams
- Partner with architects during early design phases to determine structural systems, bay spacing, floor-to-floor heights, and lateral system strategies
- Prepare and maintain structural specifications across applicable divisions
- Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs during construction administration
- Coordinate with geotechnical consultants on soil conditions and foundation recommendations
- Conduct site visits to observe structural installations and ensure adherence to design intent
- Review special inspection reports and confirm compliance with construction documents
- Contribute to business development efforts, including proposals and client presentations where structural expertise adds value
- Establish and standardize structural details, specifications, and internal best practices as the engineering function grows
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with Michigan registration (or reciprocity eligibility at time of hire)
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering (or related discipline) required
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred
- SE licensure is a plus, particularly for complex or high-risk institutional projects
- 7 years of structural engineering experience across commercial, institutional, and/or healthcare projects
- Prior experience within an AEC consulting environment preferred
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
- Experience with structural analysis software such as RISA, RAM, ETABS, or similar tools
- Demonstrated expertise across multiple structural systems, including:
- Steel
- Cast-in-place and precast concrete
- Masonry
- Light-gauge and heavy timber framing
- Strong working knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards
- Healthcare and/or institutional project experience strongly preferred
- Experience with vibration-sensitive environments (e.g., operating rooms, imaging suites) is a plus
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence in client- and contractor-facing settings
