What are the responsibilities and job description for the Azure DevOps Engineer position at S Piper Staffing LLC?
Title: Azure DevOps Engineer
Type: Contract (W2)
Location: Long Beach, CA | Hybrid (3 Days On-Site per Week)
Hourly Rate: $50 – $68/hour (depending on experience)
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Azure DevOps Engineer to support a high-impact cloud transformation initiative within a regulated enterprise environment. This is a hands-on consulting role where you will help lead the migration from on-premises infrastructure to Microsoft Azure while building scalable, secure, and compliant cloud foundations. You will play a key role in designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and Azure platform architecture—working cross-functionally with development, operations, security, and compliance teams.
Why This Role?
- Own the build of a cloud landing zone from the ground up—not just maintaining an existing environment
- Influence how a regulated organization approaches automation, governance, and audit-readiness
- Gain exposure across engineering, security, risk, and compliance functions
- Work on a strategic, enterprise-level cloud migration initiative
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement Azure landing zones, subscriptions, and governance structures (Management Groups, Azure Policy, RBAC)
- Build and manage CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions with full auditability and approval workflows
- Develop infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM) using GitOps best practices
- Lead migration of on-prem applications and infrastructure to Azure (rehost, replatform, re-architect)
- Implement monitoring and observability using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
- Embed security and compliance controls into pipelines (DevSecOps), including secrets management and vulnerability scanning
- Establish cloud cost governance, tagging strategies, and budget tracking using Azure Cost Management
- Automate release and change management processes with audit-ready controls
- Collaborate with security, risk, and compliance stakeholders to translate regulatory requirements into technical solutions
- Support disaster recovery, backup strategies, and business continuity planning
- Mentor engineers and contribute to DevOps and platform engineering best practices
Compliance & Security Focus:
This role requires a strong understanding of operating in regulated environments. Success means ensuring that all automation is secure, auditable, and compliant by default, including:
- Least-privilege access controls
- Immutable logging and audit trails
- Segregation of duties in deployment pipelines
- Evidence-based change management
Required Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in DevOps, cloud, or platform engineering
- 4 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure
- Strong experience with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
- Expertise in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM)
- Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python)
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS)
- Hands-on experience building CI/CD pipelines with testing, security scanning, and release gates
- Solid understanding of cloud networking, identity (Entra ID / Azure AD), and security fundamentals
- Experience migrating workloads from on-prem to cloud
- Familiarity working in regulated environments with compliance requirements
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) with sound validation practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- Azure certifications (AZ-400, AZ-104, AZ-305)
- Experience with compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, GDPR, etc.)
- Experience with policy-as-code and compliance automation
- Knowledge of hybrid cloud connectivity (ExpressRoute, VPN, Azure Arc)
- Experience working with security, risk, or audit teams
- Familiarity with observability tools such as Splunk, Datadog, or Grafana
Additional Details
- W2 hourly engagement
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (No Sponsorship or C2C)
If you're passionate about building secure, scalable cloud platforms and want to play a critical role in a major transformation initiative, we’d love to connect.
