Your Role: Hands-On, Impactful, and Fast-Paced

As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, in Columbia, South Carolina you will spend most of your time outdoors, participating in projects and ensuring their integrity and safety. Your contributions will be recognized as you witness projects come to life and gain valuable expertise.


What You'll Do:

  • Project & Report Evaluation: Interpret project details thoroughly before beginning site activities; accurately record findings and test results for construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and other applicable substances.
  • Metafield® Usage: Utilize data management systems to input and track information from both fieldwork and laboratory testing.
  • Tool Calibration & Upkeep: Ensure that all testing instruments are properly maintained and meet required industry accuracy standards.
  • Regulatory Testing Oversight: Conduct material testing and inspection following International Building Code (IBC) standards.
  • Communication with Project Stakeholders: Provide updates and resolve concerns by coordinating with project managers, contractors, and clients.

What We're Looking For:

  • A High School diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • Two(2) or more active certifications:
    • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
    • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
  • Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • Math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites

What to Expect:

With the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Outdoor, hands-on work in all weather conditions
  • Walking over rough terrain and standing for long periods (up to 12 hours)
  • Lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. of materials and equipment
  • Safely handling field tools and maneuvering equipment on active construction sites
