What are the responsibilities and job description for the New Product Introduction Manager position at S.Ion Mfg.?
Position Overview
We are a company with a long history of expert craftsmanship in industrial soft goods. We are looking for a skilled New Product Introduction (NPI) Manager to join our team. You are a master of process and precision, and a true team player. Your job is very important: you will be the bridge between a sales concept and a finished, manufacturable product. You will take an idea and build the complete "instruction manual" for how to create it, price it, and build it again perfectly every time. This requires you to be the central link, working closely and communicating well with our Sales, Design, and Production teams.
Key Responsibilities
Your core mission is to own the journey of a new product from a sketch to a successful first run. You will do this by:
- Creating the "Master Recipe" for Every Product: You will build and own the complete Tech Pack. This is the single source of truth that includes:
- The Bill of Materials (BOM): A detailed list of every part, its supplier, cost, and lead time.
- Design & Cut Files: The technical drawings and digital patterns used for cutting materials.
- Manufacturing Routing Notes: Step-by-step instructions for the factory floor.
- Labor Cost Estimates: Precise timing for each assembly step to create an accurate cost.
- Quality Inspection Details: Clear, measurable criteria to ensure every product meets our standards for consistent output.
- Finding the Right Parts at the Right Price: Proactively hunt for and evaluate new suppliers. You will get raw material pricing and use that data to build a detailed cost analysis for every product.
- Managing the Schedule: You are the keeper of the Timing & Action calendar, making sure every team hits their deadlines so we deliver prototypes and production runs on time.
- Advocating for the Client: You will be a key support for our Sales team, providing them with precise product specifications, clear development updates, and data-driven cost estimates straight from the tech pack. Your customer-centric focus ensures we are deeply attentive and responsive to client needs from the first sketch to the final product.
- Leading the First Build: You don't just write the instructions—you help execute them. You will actively assist during pilot production runs, troubleshooting issues and ensuring the first full-scale manufacturing order is a success.
- Solving Problems Before They Happen: Look at a design and find steps that are too difficult, slow, or expensive. Work with the design team to find simpler, smarter solutions that are easier for production.
- Being the Go-To Expert: You will act as the primary liaison between sales and the factory. You must translate customer needs into technical specifications and explain production capabilities back to the sales team.
Skills for Success in This Role
To do well here, you need more than technical skill. You need the right attitude for leadership and teamwork.
- A Collaborative Mindset: You are a natural partner who enjoys working with different teams. You take pride in creating clear plans that help everyone succeed.
- Clear Communicator: You can explain complex technical and financial details in a simple way. You listen carefully to questions from salespeople and production managers alike.
- A Problem-Solving Drive: When you see a potential roadblock in cost, design, or production, you start thinking of a solution. You don't just identify problems; you own the process of fixing them.
- Meticulous and Organized: You have a deep need for details to be correct. You are the kind of person who double-checks numbers and ensures every line in an instruction manual is clear and accurate.
- Reliable and Accountable: Your team can count on you to deliver a complete, correct tech pack on schedule. You follow through on your promises and are transparent about challenges.
We are looking for a thoughtful, meticulous, and accountable partner. If you are passionate about building things the right way and enjoy being the critical link that makes great products possible, we encourage you to apply.
