We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Laboratory Courier & Accessioning Specialist to support our daily laboratory operations. This full-time role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, values accuracy, and has a strong interest in technology and process improvement. The position combines courier responsibilities with laboratory accessioning and sample receiving, and offers opportunities to grow into technical and IT-adjacent responsibilities over time. While the role will begin with a weekday schedule, flexibility to work weekends may be required as the laboratory grows and operational needs evolve.
Key Responsibilities
Courier Responsibilities (3 mornings per week; ~5 hrs total in a week)
- Pick up and deliver laboratory specimens from client locations in a timely and professional manner
- Ensure proper handling, transport, and chain-of-custody for all specimens
- Maintain accurate delivery and pickup logs
- Represent the laboratory professionally when interacting with clients
Accessioning & Sample Receiving
- Receive, log, and accession laboratory specimens accurately into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Verify sample integrity, labeling, and accompanying documentation
- Identify and escalate discrepancies or issues with samples or requisitions
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of accessioning and receiving areas
Technology & Process Support (Growth Opportunity)
- Use laboratory software systems, scanners, and tracking tools daily
- Assist with basic troubleshooting of accessioning or courier-related technology
- Learn and follow SOPs related to data handling, compliance, and security
- Participate in process improvement initiatives related to workflow efficiency, data accuracy, and automation
- Opportunity to gain exposure to laboratory IT systems, integrations, and reporting over time
Qualifications
- College degree in a science or technology-related field (e.g., biology, chemistry, biochemistry, computer science, information systems, or related discipline)
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Reliable personal transportation that the employee is willing to use for courier duties
- Ability to maintain required insurance for vehicle use, as applicable
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Interest in learning laboratory processes and technical systems
- Ability to follow strict procedures and compliance requirements
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
Preferred (But Not Required)
- Previous experience in a laboratory, medical, courier, or logistics environment
- Familiarity with LIMS or healthcare-related software
- Interest in IT, data systems, automation, or laboratory informatics
Schedule & Availability
- Full-time position
- Weekend availability may be required in the future as operational needs change
