Location: Virginia Beach and surrounding Hampton Roads areas
S. B. Ballard Construction Company is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Project Manager Assistant (PMA) to join our team. We are a leading General Contractor and Construction Manager serving the Mid-Atlantic region, with headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
About the Role
The PMA assists the Project Manager in delivering projects on time and within budget while providing an exceptional experience for our owners. This position requires strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to coordinate multiple priorities throughout the construction process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate project activities with the Project Manager and project team.
- Take ownership of project finances, including tracking costs and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Organize, understand, and maintain current contract documents.
- Prepare construction schedules in coordination with the Superintendent and with input from subcontractors.
- Coordinate implementation of the final project budget.
- Issue subcontracts.
- Prepare and maintain the master submittal schedule and submittal log.
- Schedule and conduct owner, subcontractor coordination, and preconstruction meetings.
- Receive, review, and document project-specific issues and coordinate their resolution.
- Assist the Superintendent in implementing and coordinating SBBCC’s on-site quality control and safety procedures.
- Receive, review, and process subcontractor Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposal (RFPs).
- Prepare and distribute owner change order requests and obtain required approvals.
- Prepare and distribute subcontractor change orders and associated budget revisions.
- Prepare and distribute monthly owner applications for payment.
- Oversee project administrative logs and closeout activities.
- Promote a safety-first mindset among everyone involved in the project.
- Manage multiple projects at varying stages of construction.
- Manage a small team, providing oversight, direction, and mentoring in accordance with SBBCC’s policies and procedures.
- Build a collaborative team culture that reflects SBBCC’s mission and values.
- Travel periodically as project needs require.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- Construction industry experience, preferably in general contracting.
- Extensive knowledge of construction estimating, means and methods, accounting, document administration, and industry practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
- LEED certification or experience applying LEED requirements preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 preferred.
- Previous experience managing employees preferred.
- Timberline PJ experience a plus.
- Our search is currently focused on candidates residing within commuting distance of the Hampton Roads area.
Compensation
Salary is based on experience and other factors negotiated during the offer process.
