Job Description:
S.A. Morman is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Hollow Metal Finisher/Welder to join our fast-paced, team-driven shop environment. This role combines finishing and welding of light duty steel from 12ga-20ga responsibilities, requiring strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and a commitment to producing high-quality metal components. The position includes performing precise welding, fabrication, and repair work; reading and interpreting technical drawings; and using specialized tools to create accurate, clean welds. In addition, the role involves cutting, drilling, grinding, applying Bondo, priming, sanding, and finishing metal doors and frames to achieve a professional-grade appearance. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, problem-solving skills, and a dedication to maintaining safety, equipment care, and efficient production workflows.
Responsibilities
Welding
- Assemble and weld frames (Light industrial welding)
- MIG welding hollow metal frames, including special reinforcement components
- Reading and understanding job orders
- Operate welding machines, 4.5” and 7” grinders, cutters, and additional hand or power tools as needed
- Prepare material by cutting, grinding, or shaping metal prior to welding
- Load and unload from finishing shop as needed
Finishing
- Prep surface for finishing, by cleaning, sanding, and smoothing to ensure proper adhesion of fillers, primer, and paint
- Grind welds, sharp edges, and sand burs with precision and care
- Using filler and putty, correctly fill and blend the radius of welded corners
- Prime and paint metal parts to deliver a professional grade finish
- Inspect completed parts for quality and accuracy, ensuring standards are consistently met
- Finish parts to specification using hand tools, portable grinders, and sanding equipment
Departmental

Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma
- Experienced welder
- Proven experience in welding, fabrication, or metalworking
- Strong understanding of welding principles, materials and safety practices
- Ability to use welding equipment, grinders, cutting tools and measuring equipment
- Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and problem-solving ability
- Ability to stand for extended periods of the day
Preferred
- Experience with 7” grinder, palm sander, Bondo, paint gun, and general metal work
- Experience with doors frames and hardware
- Certified Welder
