As a Plasma Operator at Ryerson, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining plasma-cutting equipment to cut metal materials according to specified dimensions and shapes. Your primary duties will include interpreting technical drawings, adjusting machine settings, monitoring cutting processes, and ensuring quality control standards are met.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Set up and operate plasma cutting equipment to cut metal materials to precise dimensions and shapes
- Interpret technical drawings and specifications to determine cutting requirements
- Adjust machine settings such as cutting speed, gas flow, and torch height to optimize cutting performance
- Monitor cutting processes to ensure the accuracy and quality of cut pieces
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on the plasma-cutting equipment
- Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe work environment
- Operating an overhead crane, forklift, or sideloader to move material as needed
- Pulling and staging feedstock for production orders
- Work order confirmation on computer
- All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice
Requirements
- Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
- Proven experience operating plasma-cutting equipment or similar metal-cutting machinery
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Physically able to lift and move materials as needed
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding
Hourly Wage: $23.54 - $25.22 hourly. A starting wage higher than $23.54 hourly is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
