Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Salesman/Estimator with experience across both residential and commercial construction. This role combines sales, estimating, and pre-construction coordination, requiring strong client-facing skills as well as technical accuracy in takeoffs, print reading, and bid preparation.
The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable meeting with a homeowner to guide them through a roof replacement claim and preparing a material list and bid package for a commercial remodel.
Key Responsibilities - Sales & Client Engagement:
- Generate and close business opportunities in both residential (insurance claims, remodels, roofing/siding) and commercial (restaurants, tenant build-outs, exteriors) sectors
- Meet with clients, architects, and contractors to define scope and project goals
- Prepare detailed proposals and polished presentations tailored to the project type
- Negotiate contracts and manage client expectations from initial contact through contract execution
- Build strong long-term relationships with homeowners, property managers, and commercial partners
- Management and execution of door to door sales
Estimating & Technical Duties:
- Review and interpret blueprints, plans, and bid documents for commercial projects
- Perform accurate material takeoffs and prepare material lists for purchasing
- Create residential estimates that include insurance claim supplements, change orders, and selection-driven cost adjustments
- Develop competitive commercial bids that include subcontractor pricing, addenda, and specification compliance
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of building codes, ADA/fire requirements, and manufacturer specifications
Project Support & Coordination:
- Transition awarded projects from estimating to production with clear scope and material details
- Collaborate with project managers, field crews, and suppliers to confirm quantities, deliveries, and timelines
- Assist in resolving scope changes, RFIs, and project adjustments
- Ensure estimates protect company margins while staying competitive in the market
Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in construction sales, estimating, or related role
- Proven ability to estimate and sell both residential insurance-driven work and commercial bid projects
- Strong print reading and takeoff skills (roofing, siding, interiors, commercial)
- Proficiency in estimating software (Xactimate, Bluebeam, or similar), Microsoft Excel, and CRM systems
- Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and Michigan Building Code
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills a must
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment is extremely important
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.40 - $26.78 per hour
