Job Overview:
The Non Clinical-Patient Navigator provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service to support RWJBH organization’s mission to become the leading academic and preferred community cancer network throughout the state of New Jersey for patients and clinicians who seek exceptional, personalized, compassionate care fostered by fully integrated, interdisciplinary approaches to the prevention and treatment of cancer.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in healthcare, patient access, medical scheduling, or a high-volume call center supporting clinical services
- Experience with insurance verification, referral/authorization processing, and pre-certification
- Proficiency in electronic medical record and scheduling systems (EPIC, Cerner, IDX, or similar)
- Strong data-entry accuracy and comfort working within multiple systems
- Demonstrated ability to manage large volumes of calls, referrals, and scheduling requests
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and follow through on all scheduling and registration tasks
- Ability to collect, verify, and document demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information with a high degree of accuracy
- Clear and effective communication when coordinating with patients, providers, and ancillary departments
- Successful completion of all training and orientation programs
Preferred:
- Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree
- Prior experience working with oncology or specialty care populations
Scheduling Requirements:
- Working Shift: Monday – Friday
- Day Shift
- Full-Time, 40 Hours Per Week
Essential Functions:
- Manages all incoming calls, external and internal referrals for oncology services
- Fields incoming inquiries and requests, matching patients to the best possible service, physician, and appointment based on their diagnosis, geographic location and preferences
- Functions as medically knowledgeable and friendly resource for patients and caregivers, referring providers, RWJBH providers and staff
- Ensures all required demographic, financial, referral-authorization, clinical, and other registration data is accurately scheduled, collected, verified, and communicated
- Scheduling of physician oncology services for all RWJBH sites, pre-registration-registration, insurance verification, referral coordination, pre-certification, screening for financial counseling, eligibility determination and pre-service communication
- Obtains and verifies insurance-payment source, seeks necessary referral/authorization and coverage extensions as required, and assists with identification-resolution of insurance issues
- Supports multiple patient and payer types to ensure billing procedures are followed
- Accurately performed all the appropriate tasks to completion for scheduling services
- Demonstrates ability to schedule, re-schedule, and cancel appointments for the appropriate outpatient hospital service and physician appointment type
- Performs the registration of accounts, ensures that all necessary data elements are in place and the proper insurance is identified
- Follows appropriate chain of command when processing add-ons and urgent appointment requests
- Effectively communicates information to patients, physicians offices and ancillary departments, in an appropriate manner
- Adequately communicates all preparations, limitations, and instructions to the patient pre visit instructions
