The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Our Paraprofessional Technicians work collaboratively to provide life-changing applied behavior analytic (ABA) services for pediatric patients diagnosed with developmental disabilities and severe pediatric feeding disorders. Operating under the direct supervision of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and licensed psychologists, our technicians are critical in helping children increase food acceptance, master self-feeding skills, and reduce challenging mealtime behaviors. We view our tech professionals as an essential component of the multidisciplinary care team, directly expanding patient capabilities and empowering families. We hope you are excited by the opportunity to deliver specialized, compassionate care that redefines the patient experience within the RWJBarnabas Health network!

As a Paraprofessional Technician, a typical day might include the following:

  • Conducting direct ABA therapy sessions using standardized procedures under the guidance of a professional behavior analyst.
  • Assisting with the implementation of patient intake, specialized assessments, treatment protocols, and discharge planning.
  • Implementing behavioral programs to increase skill acquisition (e.g., self-feeding, chewing, healthy food/liquid acceptance) and target behavior reduction (e.g., extinction protocols for inappropriate mealtime behaviors).
  • Collecting, entering, and graphing session data into analytical spreadsheets to monitor patient clinical goals.
  • Preparing detailed initial drafts of therapeutic session materials, clinical descriptions, and accurate progress notes.
  • Partnering with clinical staff to train parents, school personnel, and caregivers on behavior management protocols to ensure home success.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, safe, and highly structured therapeutic unit environment.

This Role Might Be For You If:

  • You are deeply passionate about creating a safe, welcoming, and therapeutic environment for children with special needs and their families.
  • You are a resilient team player who remains calm under pressure and is comfortable managing challenging physical behaviors (e.g., aggression, elopement, food expulsion, or emesis).
  • You possess strong abdominal and lower back core strength, exceptional physical stamina, and the manual dexterity required to safely lift and transfer patients up to 50 pounds independently.
  • You hold yourself to a high clinical bar, communicating patient behavioral updates in strictly observable, measurable terms.
  • You believe true pediatric healing is optimized through patience, empathy, consistency, and close clinical collaboration.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Preferred: Prior experience working with individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, or pediatric feeding struggles in an instructional, educational, or therapeutic setting.
