Job Summary

The Medical Staff Coordinator in an acute care hospital manages the administrative, credentialing, and regulatory requirements for physicians and allied health professionals. They act as a liaison between medical staff and administration, ensuring compliance with bylaws and accreditation standards. Key roles include credentialing, committee management, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience: Experience in hospital credentialing or medical staff services is usually required.
  • Skills: High level of confidentiality, strong organizational skills, proficiency in database management, and excellent verbal/written communication.

Preferred

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in business or health information management preferred.
  • NAMSS certification (Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist - CPCS) is often preferred.

Essential Job Functions

  • Credentialing and Privileging: Manages the initial appointment, reappointment, and clinical privileges process for staff members, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and TJC standards.
  • Committee Support: Prepares agendas, takes minutes, and provides follow-up for Medical Staff committees.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensures compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and external regulatory bodies.
  • Liaison Role: Acts as a resource contact for physicians, nurses, and administration to ensure smooth operations.
  • Data Management: Maintains accurate databases for physician licensure, certifications, and malpractice insurance.
  • Onboarding: Facilitates the onboarding of new providers.
