Description
The Accounting Co-op will gain valuable hands-on experience in supporting the daily functions of the Accounting Department. Working under the guidance of the Controller, this role provides exposure to billing, payables, receivables, and reporting activities that are critical to keeping a logistics organization running efficiently. The position will assist with verifying paperwork, processing invoices, resolving discrepancies, and communicating with carriers and customers to support accurate, timely accounting operations. This is a collaborative opportunity to learn the fundamentals of accounting in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while contributing directly to the success of the organization.
Duties and responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
- Run reports, scan files, and verify load paperwork and billing entries for accuracy.
- Identify improper billing or payment discrepancies through research, document findings, and process corrections for management review.
- Audit carrier statements and assist with carrier communications related to past-due invoices or potential adjustments.
- Process customer and carrier invoices, ensuring accuracy and proper general ledger coding.
- Support accounts receivable by contacting customers via email or phone to secure payment information and resolve outstanding balances.
- Build working relationships with internal departments, carriers, and customers to resolve invoice or payment disputes.
- Communicate billing or payable issues to the Accountant or Controller for resolution.
- Assist the Controller and Accounting team with ad hoc projects, reporting, and other accounting functions as needed.
- Perform additional duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications to perform the job successfully include:
- Education: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Strong interest in accounting, financial operations, or logistics/transportation.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven office environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Strong prioritization and multi-tasking skills, with a high sense of urgency.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including:
- Outlook – email, calendar, and task functions
- Excel – creating/manipulating spreadsheets, formulas, and data sets
- Word – creating and editing documents
