Scope
The Lease Operator II is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance preparation of wells, processing units, and related production facilities. The position requires strong hands-on experience with oil, gas, and water separation facilities, surface production equipment, utilities, and field operations.
This is an independent, field-based role with an emphasis on troubleshooting surface equipment, diagnosing and resolving alarms, monitoring data trends through SCADA, and maintaining safe and reliable production. Experience with new facility startup and operations is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain personal safety and the safety of coworkers by following and enforcing all applicable safety rules and procedures.
  • Serve as the primary operations contact for assigned facilities.
  • Understand facility process flow, basic process chemistry, major lineups, isolation points, and safety equipment.
  • Review SCADA data, alarms, trends, and computer-generated schematics to identify operating issues and optimize production.
  • Diagnose and resolve alarms and troubleshoot surface production equipment.
  • Independently inspect wells, facilities, and equipment using sight, sound, smell, and touch to confirm proper operation.
  • Issue Safe Work Permits based on current operating conditions and associated chemical, personnel, and process-safety risks.
  • Perform gas testing to confirm operating areas are safe for maintenance activities.
  • Gauge tanks, read meters, collect product samples, and accurately record production data.
  • Monitor differential pressure, chemical injection rates, temperature, pressure, level, flow, vibration, and other critical operating parameters.
  • Identify leaks, freezing, overheating, abnormal equipment conditions, and other production concerns.
  • Adjust local process parameters to maintain production specifications and optimize operations.
  • Verify control valves and other equipment are correctly positioned.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance, including adding lubricants or water, tightening valve packing, changing filters and steam traps, and clearing equipment.
  • Coordinate oil sales and saltwater hauling as required.
  • Maintain accurate electronic or paper gauge sheets and document reasons for production changes.
  • Communicate operating conditions, production changes, and required corrective actions to the Production Foreman.
  • Perform seasonal winterization and summerization of equipment to maximize reliability and efficiency.
  • Monitor field equipment using handheld electronic test equipment and computer-based monitoring systems.
  • Inspect safety valves, fire extinguishers, fire hoses, breathing apparatus, and other safety equipment.
  • Maintain the company vehicle in safe and reliable working condition.
  • Perform work in accordance with environmental policies and procedures while minimizing flaring, emissions, spills, and other environmental impacts.
  • Participate in continuous-improvement initiatives involving safety, production, equipment reliability, and field operations.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and work independently while supporting overall team objectives.
Skills and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in lease operations, production operations, or a closely related oil and gas position.
  • Hands-on ability to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair surface equipment associated with oil and gas production.
  • Experience diagnosing production alarms and resolving equipment or process issues.
  • Experience monitoring and trending operational data using SCADA.
  • Knowledge of oil, gas, and water separation equipment and production processes.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently in a field environment.
  • Must be willing to work the assigned rotational schedule.
  • Must be available for callouts as operational needs dictate.
  • Computer proficiency with effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting more than 50 pounds and climbing ladders and stairways.
  • Must be able to use a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus and other required safety detection equipment.
Preferred Experience
  • New production facility startup and commissioning experience.
  • Independent lease-route or production-facility responsibility.
  • Safe Work Permit issuance and gas-testing experience.
  • Oil sales and saltwater-hauling coordination.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting experience with surface production equipment.
