Schedule: Monday–Friday (5/2) | Call-out rotation required once trained

Position Overview
The Automation Technician provides Automation and I&E (Instrumentation & Electrical) support to East Texas Operations – Haynesville Shale. This role installs, maintains, and troubleshoots field automation systems including PLCs, transmitters, communications equipment, HMI components, and SCADA infrastructure.
The ideal candidate is safety-driven, technically strong, comfortable working independently in field environments, and experienced with oil & gas production equipment and automation controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Automation & I&E equipment (PLCs, transmitters, communications hardware, HMIs)
• Support field operations with automation upgrades, controls adjustments, and system repairs
• Utilize SCADA systems for monitoring and operational decision support
• Perform Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures on equipment as required
• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture at all times
• Work collaboratively with field operations and experienced Automation/I&E personnel
• Assist with general operations duties as assigned
• Participate in call-out rotation after adequate training (nights, weekends, holidays)
• Work extended hours or late shifts as needed

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Required
Automation & Controls

• Install, troubleshoot, and repair:

– Allen Bradley PLCs (Micro 800 series, Connected Components Workbench)
– ABB TotalFlow
– Fisher ROC
– Red Lion DA70 (Crimson 3.1 / 3.2)

• Basic understanding of PLC ladder logic, function block programming, and reading P&IDs
• Experience with data collection workflows including Sparkplug MQTT drivers (Ignition)

Instrumentation & Electrical

• Troubleshoot electrical circuits, RTUs, transmitters, and control wiring
• Knowledge of field devices including electric actuators:

– RotorX (chokes)
– Fisher Easy Drives (dump valves)
– VanZandt actuators
– Kimray electric actuators
Communications & SCADA

• Knowledge of field communications devices: Freewave, XetaWave, Red Lion, ABB, GE MDS
• Ability to monitor and operate SCADA-based systems

Oil & Gas Operations

• Understanding of plunger lift, choke controls, separator dump controls, pressure management
• Experience supporting amine plant controls, safety systems, and production facility operations

General Requirements

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Willingness to learn from senior Automation & I&E personnel
• Must work safely in H2S environments while wearing SCBA
• Must pass Fit Test and Work at Heights certification
• Ability to work in extreme outdoor conditions

Preferred Experience (Manager-Provided)

• Red Lion DA70 data collection & screen building
• Building Ignition (SCADA) integrations using Sparkplug MQTT
• Demonstrated field experience in oil & gas automation and production systems
