Rutland Town School (Long Term Sub., 8/31-10/30) The Greater Rutland County Supervisory Union is seeking a talented, motivated, and student-centered Assistant Principal to join the leadership team at Rutland Town School as a long term sub (covering a paternity leave) from 8/31/2026-10/30/2026. Under the direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal will serve as a vital instructional leader, helping to manage a school environment guided by the SU’s vision, mission, and strategic goals. We are looking for a collaborative professional dedicated to enhancing student achievement and fostering a positive, professional climate for all students, staff, and community members. Essential Functions & Responsibilities School Operations & Leadership Administrative Oversight: Assist the Principal in the daily management of the school; assume the duties of the Principal in their absence or as assigned. Staff Supervision: Support the supervision and evaluation of teachers and staff to ensure high-quality instructional delivery. School Climate: Maintain a deep understanding of school climate and its impact on learning; actively work to foster a community of purpose, safety, and respect. Leadership Teams: Serve as an active member of the School Leadership and Crisis Teams. Student Services & Management Student Conduct: Oversee school discipline and lead Hazing, Harassment, and Bullying (HHB) investigations in accordance with state and district policy. Attendance: Manage attendance and truancy protocols to support student engagement. Safety & Compliance: Oversee the Educational Support System and assist in the coordination of VTCAP testing, Summer School, ESY, and field trips. Instructional Advocacy Proficiency-Based Learning: Demonstrate a commitment to proficiency-based learning and reporting; lead professional development and conversations to promote effective instructional practices. Professional Growth: Maintain current knowledge of the district’s curriculum and best practices through ongoing administrative training and school-based data review. Community Engagement Collaboration: Utilize effective communication and facilitation skills to build strong partnerships with students, staff, and families. School Life: Attend parent meetings and provide administrative supervision for afternoon and evening school activities. Qualifications & Attributes Educational Leadership: Proven ability to drive student achievement and staff performance. Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a focus on transparency and collaboration. Licensure: Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a School Administrator in the State of Vermont. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to see, talk, hear and use hands to feel or handle. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, climb steps, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. The employee is occasionally required to lift, carry, move and/or restrain school-aged students. The employee is regularly required to handle stressful situations and resolve conflicts. Possess visual acuity and stamina to work at a computer monitor for at least part of each day. Possess strength and stamina to be able to remain in a seated position for up to 90 minutes at a time throughout the workday. Possess strength and stamina to be able to remain standing for a period of up to 90 minutes at a time throughout the workday. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Ability to carry up to 25 pounds. Frequent walking, light lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, or other limited physical activities. The school will implement appropriate accommodations for teachers who are either temporarily or permanently unable to meet the physical demands when documented physical injury, disability or impairment may limit the employee’s ability to perform their physical responsibilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Salary : $300 - $325
