Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Supervisor of Secondary Special Education. The Supervisor of Secondary Special Education is responsible for the day to day provision of special education services for middle and high school students, including the supervision and evaluation of all special education professional and paraprofessional faculties. Primary responsibility is to assure that all identified special education students receive a free and appropriate public education in compliance with all state and federal rules and regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Serves as the initial resource person for case managers and assists department members in handling day to day instructional issues.
Participates as a member of school-based teams as appropriate to support the needs of special education students at Otter Valley
Meets regularly with the Director of Special Services.
Maintains a direct line of communication to the building principal(s) in regard to departmental issues/concerns.
Collaborates with the Associate Principals in regards to student discipline for special education students, serving as the lead decision-maker for special education students with Behavior Improvement Plans (BIPs)
Coordinates school/community relations relative to the special education department, including presentations to faculty and the school board as requested.
Maintains documentation and records of meetings, dates/times of observations, budget information, and other.
Delegates duties, as needed, to accomplish departmental projects and goals.
Supervises the processing of referrals of comprehensive evaluations for special education in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Supervises all aspects of regulatory compliance for Special Education, and IEP Medicaid.
Serves as LEA Representative at Special Education Meetings, CSP’s and attends Local Inter Agency meetings
Holds and facilitates Team Meetings for OV Special Education students.
Is responsible for the direct supervision and evaluation of all special education teachers and Paraprofessionals assigned to OVUHS main campus.
Assists in recruiting, screening, and hiring of professional and paraprofessional staff.
Determines weekly or long-range schedules for paraprofessionals.
Participates in the orientation and training of special education teachers and paraprofessional staff.
Assigns teaching assignments and case management distribution of department members.
Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services or other District Administrators.
QUALIFICATIONS
-Must hold or be eligible for VT Agency of Education License as Director of Special Education
-Master’s degree in special education
-Minimum of 3 years teaching experience as a special educator
-Evidence of excellent communication skills, both in speaking and writing, high energy, strong organizational skills, and the ability to complete multiple complex tasks with attention to detail in a timely manner.
-In-depth knowledge of state and federal regulations governing special education, including the appropriate IEP process and development,
-Ability to interpret educational/psycho-educational assessments.
