Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Salesperson role based in Collins, MS. The Salesperson will build and maintain relationships with new and existing customers, understand their product needs, and recommend appropriate hardwood lumber solutions. Day-to-day responsibilities include prospecting and following up with leads, preparing quotes, processing orders, and coordinating with production and shipping teams to ensure accurate and timely deliveries. The role also involves monitoring market trends, maintaining product knowledge, and providing clear communication on pricing, availability, and specifications. The Salesperson will be expected to meet sales targets, maintain organized records, and represent Rutland Lumber Co professionally at all times.
Qualifications
- Ability to understand and communicate product specifications for hardwood lumber, including species, grades, and drying methods.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills, with experience in B2B or industrial sales preferred.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written.
- Basic math and analytical skills for pricing, quoting, and order accuracy.
- Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple accounts and orders.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing or lumber yard environment and collaborating with operations teams.
- Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, and basic sales or CRM software.
- Prior experience in lumber, building materials, or related industries is beneficial.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in business or related fields is a plus.
- Ability to work on-site in Collins, MS and travel occasionally to customer locations as needed.
